Why Modi compared Kerala to Somalia

Even as the Twitterati of Kerala is venting fire over the comparison of Kerala with Somalia, few people began to probe the reason behind his conclusion. Modi has earlier said that the situation of Scheduled Tribes in Kerala is worse than that of Somalia. He seems to have come across a picture where few kids are seen searching for food in the garbage dump. What Modi has seen is truth. But the truth behind the picture is something else. On November 4, 2015... a photo has appeared in ‘Matrubhumi’ – a daily paper in Kerala. The photo featured four kids in a garbage yard at Peravoor. They are indeed searching for food, but not out of hunger.
The kids come from a family which has decent way of living. The family was even allotted land by the Tribal Department. These four kids are being provided with free schooling and a free bus to reach their schools. But they rarely go their school. A probe has found that these children often miss their school and land at the dumping yard. Reason! They want to eat the left out bakery items such as pastries and puffs! Now that’s certainly a different situation from Somalia where the Human Development Index is almost one third when compared to Kerala. Modiji should have thought before the comparison, which has prompted every common man to remind him to ‘speak like a Prime Minister.’
