The separatists has called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir valley against the killing of three youth by the army. It has all started yesterday with the agitation by a mob, protesting the alleged molestation of a girl by army personnel. As the mob turned violent with stone pelting, army had opened fire in which three people got killed. These killings have of course ignited the sensitive valley with separatists and opposition issuing harsh statements against the army and Kashmir government. A curfew was imposed in Handwara, the epic centre of the incident to avoid further protests.
Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has spoken to the Defense ministry regarding the incident and was assured of an inquiry into the incident. However, this incident has given a chance to the hard line Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, to provoke the citizens against the Indian army and Kashmir government. The situation of course would remain tense for a few more days and it would certainly test the governing ability of Mehabooba Mufti. After the controversy at the NIT campus, Mehabooba seems to have chanced with another test to prove her diplomacy.
