Delhi ‘rape’ protests intensified

The protests against the rape incident on a para medical student in Delhi have been intensified. In the agitation held at India Gate in the capital today, some ugly incidents have taken place. The protestors have thrown their shoes and stones at the police who were on duty.
With this, additional police forces were deployed in the area. Several students have been agitating at the ‘India Gate’ since this morning. They stayed at the area till this evening. At one time, it became very difficult for the police to control the agitators who came in large number.
The tense situation has been continuing between the students and the police in the capital. About 13 agitators were seriously injured in the incident. They are being treated at different hospitals in Delhi.
With the nationwide protests against the rape incident, the union government has reacted sharply. The union home minister Susheel Kumar Shinde has called on the prime minister Manmohan Singh today and apprised him on the rape incident. It is reported that the prime minister has asked his ministerial colleague to take serious steps to avoid such incidents in future.
The union minister Narayanasamy said that the protestors were resorting to lawlessness even the police forces were showing restraint. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has demanded a special session of the Parliament to frame new laws for the safety of the women. The BJP chief Nitin Gadkari has condemned the lathi charge on the students.
Baba Ramdev, the prominent yoga guru, has commented that the people of the country could never forgive those who committed the crime.
