Benefits of Detox Water
Benefits of Detox Water
With a few simple ingredients you can transform the normal regular water into a detoxifying masterpiece and reap even more benefits from it than drinking just plain water. This is something you can do every single day, or as part of a broader detoxing program. Detox water has become one of the most popular forms of detoxifying beverages, and there’s nothing more bloat-reducing and cleansing for the body. Detoxification, or cleansing, is a process that requires the circulation of detoxifying liquids through the body, so that the organs which are responsible for these functions (like the liver, kidneys, lungs and skin) can fulfill their tasks more easily, without being overloaded.
People who detox have a variety of reasons for doing so. Many people want to lose weight or boost their immune systems through the massive doses of fiber and vitamin C in these drinks. Many people too want to make their skin look and feel better, which can be done by adding ingredients like cucumber to their water. Cucumber contains silica, which is known to reverse signs of aging and diminish damage done by environmental exposure to sun and wind. Cucumbers are one of the most hydrating vegetables because they’re mostly made up of water.
Many detox programs include cucumbers on them for this very reason, and adding them to your water pulls out their minerals so you’re getting an added benefit. Mix in the lemon juice and you’re getting the cleansing effect of citric acid and helping to clear out the digestive system. Lemon or lime juice helps stimulate and regulate the digestive track which is why it’s so helpful with constipation, heartburn and gas, stimulates bile production, and thins out bile, which allows it to flow more freely. Bile is produced by the liver and ends up in the small intestine to break down lipids (fats) that we’ve consumed. The mint makes things taste fresh and crisp, and goes nicely with the lemon and cucumber while providing additional nutrients and benefits.
Water is just plain good for us, but it’s thought that it helps flush nasty toxins and waste through our system, giving organs like the liver and kidney an easier time doing their job. Despite being nutritionally rich, detox juices should not be used as meal substitute. Obviously, physical exercise and a rich and balanced diet continue to be a priority.
