Prominent Tollywood hero, Padmasri Dr. Mohan Babu visited Detroit over the weekend, along with hisson and Tollywood hero Mr. Vishnu, with a purpose to meet Detroit Telugu NRIs and explain about SriVidya Niketan and seek their support. Around 400 people participated in this fun filled three hour long event.

Before starting the event, Dr. Mohan Babu and Hero Vishnu greeted and thanked each and every one of the 400 attendees. Along with several kids, both the heros started the event with Jyothy Prajwalana. Mr. Vishnu explained about Sri Vidya Niketan, its progress since 1992, the future goals, expansion ideas and his desire to model this institute after the prestigious US Universities. He strongly invited Telugu NRIs partnership in this long journey. The 15 minute long video presentation showcased the world class facilities of Sri Vidya Niketan and reflected the progress made thus far. Dr. Mohan Babu detailed his life journey, his employment as teacher, and the hardships he experienced before seeing success in the Movie Industry. Being the son of a small school headmaster, Dr. Mohan Babu shared his ambition and vision behind Sri Vidya Niketan. To bar the caste system in his institute, he proudly mentioned the removal of Caste from the school prospectus and the admission application. To help the poor and low income families, Dr. Mohan Babu said that the institute reserves 25% of the admissions every year and are selected thru the annual entrance exam. Dr. Mohan Babu’s speech was well received by the attendees with frequent loud applauses. Inspired by his speech, the Detroit Telugus raised around 115,000 US Dollars in a short span of 45 minutes. Several teenagers surprised Dr. Mohan Babu by donating few hundred dollars from their pocket money. The Detroit Telugu Association felicitated both the heros for their philanthropic efforts.

All attendees congratulated Mr. Sateesh Mandalapa and Mr. Siva Yarlagadda for introducing them to such a noble cause. The organizers thanked each and every of the attendees, Ruchi Restaurant for the delicious dinner, MI India and Radio Station Rockin’ Raaga for the publicity, Mr. Karumanchi Vamsi, Mr. Sunil Pantra, Mr. Srinivas (Jr) Gogineni, Mr. Koneru Mohan, Mr. Challa Danteswara Rao, Mr. Sagar Maramreddy, Mr. Sarat Kompalli, Mr. Udaya Kumar Chapalamadugu and many other friends for their undivided support. The event concluded on a very happy note.
