Pushpa 2 Day 2 bookings lower than Day 1: What's the reason?
Updated : Dec 6, 2024
Pushpa 2 The Rule released for a huge reception on the first day. The most hyped sequel of the year, registered highest Day one for any Indian film in Hindi. It has beaten Jawan opening day number in Hindi markets. In Tamil Nadu also, it collected more than RRR and Baahubali 2. In Nizam area, the movie has crossed RRR Day one record.
Slowly, every area numbers are being announced and in each one, the movie seems to be occupying numerouno position. In Hindi, the final tally is yet to come but it collected over Rs.65 crores Nett, to establish Day one record. In Nizam, the movie share is said to be close to Rs.30 crores for just Day one.
But the second Day bookings in Nizam are so flat that morning and noon shows have seen close to 25-35% occupancies everywhere. The interior areas, where the mass films do well, even in such areas also, the movie seems to be struggling to put housefulls. Evening shows and Night shows might see much better turnouts.
This phenomenon is hard to understand as the movie did not get unanimous negative feedback. It recorded mixed reviews but none of them dismissed the movie like Saaho or Aadipurush or Radhe Shyam. Like Devara and Salaar, most of the viewers expressed that this movie will find more appreciation in mass circuits.
But the bookings on apps and even ground level reports suggest that the audiences are not in fancy to see the movie in the first week and that too at astronomical rates. Producers Mythri Movie Makers have decided to go with higher prices than usual but that strategy seems to have backfired.
Even if the audiences are in favour to watch the film, they could be waiting for second week or third week, when the rates would be lesser than the first week. Some are thinking about watching the movie on OTT platforms. So, the producers greed seems to have killed the film from gaining huge consolidated total in the first weekend.
Still, due to the hiked rates, the collections will be higher. While premieres have seen people praising Allu Arjun's performance, the first day audiences have been more polarising with most of them expressing disappointment with Sukumar's direction and screenplay.
Even Fahadh Faasil's character ending and extended, lengthy closure to Pushpa family arc and absence of "Where is Pushpa?" teaser content in the film, all seems to have added to the disappointment of those audiences. Some did not like Rashmika Mandanna's character as well.
KGF Chapter 2, Jawan, Kalki 2898 AD have been able to consistently attract audiences after a huge start on opening day. We have to wait and see, how Pushpa 2 will fare in coming days.
