Is Mass Jathara end of the road for Ravi Teja?
Updated : Nov 3, 2025
Mass Jathara starring Ravi Teja, Sreeleela had to be postponed several times before release and it finally arrived in theatres on 31st October. While Mr. Bachchan faced trolls and comments, Mass Jathara ended up being outrightly rejected at the box office. This seems like end of the road for the Mass Maharaja.
Ravi Teja, at the dawn of 2000's, became the most successful leading actor with back to back hits like Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, Avunu Valliddaru Istapaddaru, Idiot, Khadgam, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. He continued delivering successful films at least one for every year with Venky, Dongodu, Veede, Bhadra, Vikramarkudu, Dubai Seenu, Krishna, Kick, Anjaneyulu, Don Seenu, Mirapakay, till 2011.
Venky, Krishna, Vikramarkudu, Kick have been cult classics for the actor with every commercial element working in proportion. But from 2012, he has been part of many films but box office successes have been rare. Balupu, Power, Raja The Great, Krack, Waltair Veerayya, Dhamaka have been his successful films in 13 years.

Tiger Nageswara Rao, Ravanasura, Eagle, Disco Raja have been different themes from his regular commercial heavy formula films but they too have been trolled for trying to ape other films and the actor romancing too young actresses for his age. The difference has been too visible on screen and he decided to ignore it.
The energy that he had been synonymous with throughout his career has become overused tool in his films. Sticking to similar jokes, action sequences, and same themes have distanced young audiences from his films, who became the ladder for his growth in the 2000's. As "Chanti Gadu" in Idiot, he made a mark that many can seldom forget.
But his over dependency on repeated formula has taken away the novelty of having a person like him as the lead. He is a brilliant actor with great comic timing but playing to his strengths has been leading to his downfall, in recent years. He needs to think about different stories and at the same time, directors who are bringing them. Not every person can be Puri Jagannadh, Srinu Vaitla whose peak and freshness helped him greatly.
There is a need for retrospection for Ravi Teja as producers would be losing interest in his marketability and Mass Jathara would be the first step in serious consideration of alternate young heroes rather than the once-charismatic energetic star.
