Manoj Bajpayee and Raj & DK have created a great home grown thriller series in India with Family Man. After a cult blockbuster of Season 1, they followed it up with hit Season 2 with Samantha Ruth Prabhu in antagonist role. Now, Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur joining the cast for Season 3 with North East India riots and issues as the main core plot. Let's discuss about the season now.
Plot:
Srikanth Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) has to get used to his wife Suchitra Tiwari (Priyamani) becoming more financially successful than him. He is unable to cope up with their daughter Dhriti Tiwari (Ashlesha Thakur)'s woke choices and trying to fit into the changing landscape at his home. He gets framed by Meera Eston (Nimrat Kaur), who uses Major Sameer (Darshan Kumar) and a terrorist leader Rukmangadha Sinha "Rukma" (Jaideep Ahlawat) starts connecting with various local groups with the help of powerful men from China. Can Srikanth overcome these allegations and stop the terrorist activities in North East? Watch the series to know more.
Analysis:
Raj & DK have become masters at bringing up whacky ideas to the fore front and deliver a funny yet heartfelt piece of creative content over the years. But they seem to dance between great quality and poor, underwhelming content in a cyclic fashion. Honey Bunny proved to be very lethargic from them while their Guns & Gulaabs ended up being all over the place. So, many wanted to them give a very strong comeback with The Family Man Season 3.
But they could not really bring in the same imaginative nature of narrative to this season. Many issues seem to have been brushed away to keep it apolitical and not to scartch at the wrong side of the powerful people. Even the inventiveness of infusing Srikanth as a simple middle-class man going on big missions also seems to have been done aside with. The scenes feel very rushedly written and executed with nothing really coming together throughout.
Jaideep Ahlawat and Manoj Bajpayee kind of actors face-off needed a very strong piece of build-up and writing but it just feels like makers did not want to give so much teeth to either of them. While the big action ambition is apparent, the kind of choreography feels very common rather than ground breaking that they generally manage to bring to the table. Even the family angle is not really handled with the similar vigor as the previous ones.
Well, the writers need to go back and watch their season 1 to really achieve the balance again for Season 4, whenever it will be made. The generally good production values also feel artificial with extensive use of green screen and sound studios. Seems like they had a lot of promise to offer at idea level but failed to project it on to the screen. Hope, they will make a better comeback.
Bottomline:
Doesn't live up to the expectations and feels like a shade of first season. Underwhelming!!
Rating: 2.5/5
