Nagarjuna doesn't want to repeat NTR biopic mistakes
Updated : Nov 23, 2024
Telugu Cinema has been blessed with two legendary actors like ANR, NTR who took the film industry into masses, so much so that, Telugu people have become almost addicted to watching Cinema over other existing artforms during the time. They have been key in Telugu Cinema gaining recognition nation wide in early 60's and 70's.
Later, Telugu Cinema faced discrimination from other languages with filmmakers who have superiority complex. Things have changed now with Baahubali kind of a film forcing everyone to recognise Telugu filmmakers and their potential to deliver epic films.
As Nandamuri family delivered biopic on NTR life as Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu involving his career in films and politics, now, many are asking about ANR biopic. Nagarjuna replied to these questions at IFFI Goa event, remembering ANR on his centenary. He stated that it would make for a boring film to make on ANR's life as his career had only highs throughout. And he opined that they might have to fictionalise his life too much to make it an interesting story with ups and downs.
He stated that he had such discussions with his father as well when he was alive and they can make a documentary using ANR's clips from old films and use AI technology if required to recreate his own imagery. But he vehemently denied any plans to star as his father for making a biopic film.
NTR biopics failed to become box office successes even though Nandamuri Balakrishna received critical acclaim for his performance. The movies felt like glossed documentaries rather than engaging biopics. Even Sumanth acted as ANR in NTR biopic but the excitement did not last after initial opening day at the box office. Well, Nagarjuna seems to have observed NTR biopics result and taken this decision.
