Trivikram Srinivas was asked to work on the script which is totally based on drama and emotional feel. But mind you, earlier Trivikram and Mahesh Babu worked on a drama (humor) based action movie Mahesh Khaleja, but the movie backfired due to high expectations on Mahesh Babu.

Perhaps NTR is a touch apprehensive about the missing commercial elements in Trivikram's earlier movie Kaleja. Also, NTR's recent release Brindavanam is a family drama, but NTR made sure that the movie has enough commercial ingredients to strike the box office.
