Kalki 2898 AD US Collections dispute takes legal turn

Kalki 2898 AD has been a massive hit for Prabhas post Baahubali 2. His immediate releases like Saaho, Radhe Shyam, Adipurush have failed big time while Salaar recovered budget. Kalki went on to collect more than Rs.1200 crores gross worldwide and the actor's fans are eagerly waiting for the proposed sequel. But currently, producer Vyjayanthi Movies are gearing up for a legal battle with US Distributor Prathyangira Cinemas.

The distribution company has distributed Prabhas's Salaar and then Kalki 2898 AD in USA, Canada and Europe. Now, producer of Kalki are asking for 60% to 65% distributor share from US exhibitors. These terms go in hand with what RRR and Baahubali 2 have secured before. But Prathyangira Cinemas have reportedly offered only 45% of share from collected gross.

This has shocked the producer Swapna Dutt and after launching a complaint about discrepancies with Producer Council, she is taking legal action as well. New reports have suggested that legal notices have been sent to US theatre chains to report the film collection details to production house for reference against the distributor's data.

Vyjayanthi Movies have decided to inquire deeply about the discrepancies. Going into the details, the distributor has paid Rs.50 crores in advance for the rights on refundable terms, with 20% commission on share. The film performed well and it collected Rs.156 crores in the market. So, the distributor now owes Rs.25 crores to the producer with 60% share value but with 45% share value they owe nothing.

Hence, the producer has decided to put an end to these discrepancies but some distributors are claiming that in case of losses, several producers do not issue refunds on time as agreed but when the film earns a profit, they immediately ask for their share which is diabolical.

Well, for now though, director Nag Ashwin is looking into the creative part of the sequel while producer is busy with the collection settlements. Let's see when will much awaited sequels Salaar Part 2 and Kalki 2 will go on floors.
