Vivek (Bharat), Aravind (Sarvanand), Siva (Kishore) and Rafi (Padma Kumar) form a group called '4 The People' who punish the corrupt officials. They work as an anonymous group who operate on the complaints they receive through the website they have launched. Their modus operandi include riding in black bikes wearing all-black attire with a black helmet and chopping off the hands of the corrupt official, leaving a note saying that its the handiwork of '4 The People'. The police department summons an ACP called Sarath Chandra (Suresh Menon) to trace and crack down on '4 The People'. The rest of the story is all about how Sarath Chandra traces the 4 people and how the legacy of '4 The People' continues.
Analysis :
It is a simple story told in an appealing sort of way. In terms of acting, the four boys are adequate, though the girls (especially the now more popular Gopika) have nothing much to do. Suresh Menon cuts a fine impression as an honest cop. The film has been a hit in Malayalam and Tamil primarily because it convincingly romanticized a youthful dream. The plot cannot work in real life. But such fictitious fantasy is needed to sustain our hopes. And director Jeyaraj has packaged this utopian dream in an alluring array of songs and dances. The music by Jassie Gift is already rage in the south. Reggae, rap, raga medley has caught the imagination of the youths. The editing and cinematography are also stylized and attractive.
TeluguOne Perspective :
The film works because its speaks a modern idiom even though the story has been told in several films before. In many ways, Yuvasena is an amplification of youthful righteous indignation. Most youths, before they fall prey to the inexorable and ineluctable corrupt system, harbor notions of cleaning it. It is a feeling that combines Naxalism, Communism with the wide-eyed enthusiasm for the world. Cinematography by debutant cinematographer Gunasekhar is excellent. Dialogues by Marudhuri Raja are OK, but his signature is missing. Editing is trendy, but the effect of flashing white after editing cut is used very redundantly. Background music is fair. Production values by Sravanthi Movies are slick compared to the shoe-string budget.
