The story revolves round a house, which is far away from the city. Viraag Rao (J.D.Chakravarthy) is a famous writer. He is going through a phase of mental block, so he decides to shift to a peaceful bungalow - Shanti Kutir, located on the fringe of Pune. He has a wife Jhilmil (Sushmita Sen) and a son Rohan (Ahsaas Channa). Jhilmil and Viraag are both busy with their life and professional commitments. Jhilmil is a doctor and Viraag keeps himself busy with Computer. Young Rohan is left to tend for himself. He roams around the house, exploring it. And one day he sees something no one agrees to believe in, they all ignore this to be just a piece of his imagination till one day something bizarre happens and two people die in the house, both ruthlessly murdered. Enter Police Office Ghorpande (Sayaji Shinde) who thinks some psychopath has done murder and Viraag remembers what Rohan has been saying all along. They test his theory. The outcome is a shocking revelation.

Analysis :

'Marri Chettu' is loosely based on Stanley Kubrick's acclaimed THE SHINING [1980; Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duvall], which was based on author Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name, 'Marri Chettu' also reminds you of the Nicole Kidman starrer THE OTHERS (Sush's child playing/communicating with the ghost-kids). Of course, comparisons with BHOOT are also inevitable (a couple moving into a new house and the strange occurrences that follow!). Following the trend set by BHOOT, Marri Chettu also defies the stereotype. The eerie atmosphere is created not by skulls or skeletons tumbling out of the wardrobe, but (cleverly) with creepy situations.

TeluguOne Perspective :

Sushmita Sen is competent, enacting her part with flourish. Chakravarthy continues to be stiff. Master Ahsaas Channa is the real star. The child is supremely talented and his expressions at most places contribute to the eerie atmosphere. Peeya Rai Choudhuri impresses. Purab Kohli doesn't get any scope. Rajpal Yadav goes completely over the top. His character is the weakest in the film. Rasika Joshi is efficient. Sayaji Shinde is not half as convincing as Nana Patekar in BHOOT. The film is not for faint-hearted. It is also not for the heart that is heavy with expectations. The film tries to play with fear. But we fear, it may not be enough.
