Indian 3 could go direct to OTT release

on Oct 2, 2024

Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh became a disaster at the box office. It ended up as first major disaster in legendary director Shankar's career. The movie couldn't cash in on Indian movie sequel hype. Even being Kamal Haasan's major release post a blockbuster like Vikram, did not help it much. Post such a disastrous outcome, Indian 3 could have a direct OTT release say reports.

According to reports, Lyca Productions have been going through major financial crisis and they are trying their best to finish big projects like Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan and Ajith Kumar's Vidaa Muyarchi. Indian 2 and Indian 3 have been 5 years in the making and disastrous result of Indian 2 did propel their losses further. So, there is a chance of the production house going for direct OTT release for Indian 3 say Kollywood sources.

Lyca Productions are hoping for Game Changer to be a huge comeback for Shankar. The movie starring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani had to be simultaneously shot by the director post Covid-19 pandemic as Indian went back on sets. Now, if Shankar makes a comeback then the Indian 3 opening will be better as trailer received much better reception than Indian 2. If Game Changer too fails, Lyca might convince all parties involved for direct OTT release it seems.

Shankar, being one of the most celebrated directors of Indian Cinema might not heed for such a compromise. On the other hand, Kamal Haasan wants to erase bad memories of Indian 2 with Thug Life directed by Mani Rathnam. A lot seems to be hanging in balance on Game Changer when it comes to Shankar's future plans. Let's wait and see.
