Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki passes away
Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki, one of the most respected names in South Indian cinema, has passed away at the age of 94. The legendary actress breathed her last in Chennai on Friday, August 21, at 1:59 PM after being hospitalised following age-related health complications. The news was confirmed by Nadigar Sangam president and actor Nassar. Janaki had been undergoing treatment at Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai, and was reportedly receiving intensive medical care. Her mortal remains will be kept at Centoph Road in Teynampet from 5 PM on Friday for family, friends, colleagues and admirers to pay their last respects. Born in Rajahmundry, Janaki entered films with the Telugu classic Shavukaru in 1950, directed by L. V. Prasad and starring N. T. Rama Rao. The film not only marked her leading-lady debut but also gave her the screen name that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Interestingly, Shavukaru was also NTR's first film as a leading hero. From there, Janaki built an extraordinary career that crossed Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema. She worked with some of the biggest stars of different generations, including NTR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. Her Telugu filmography includes memorable films such as Kanyasulkam, Jayam Manade, Vadante Dabbu, Rechukka-Pagati Chukka, Rojulu Marayi, Doctor Chakravarthy, Akkachellellu and Manchi Kutumbam. What made Sowcar Janaki particularly remarkable was her ability to evolve with the industry. After establishing herself as a leading actress, she seamlessly moved into character roles and continued to make an impact across generations. Her performances in films such as K. Balachander's Iru Kodugal, Edhir Neechal and other acclaimed Tamil films demonstrated the range that made her much more than a conventional heroine. She also remained relevant in Telugu cinema through films such as Samsaram Oka Chadarangam, Evade Subramanyam, Kanche, Babu Bangaram, Soubhagyam and Anni Manchi Sakunamule. Janaki's career spanned more than seven decades and over 400 films, along with extensive work on stage and television. Her contribution to cinema was recognised with honours including the Kalaimamani and, in 2022, the Padma Shri. Her last film was the Telugu release Anni Manchi Sakunamule in 2023. With her passing, Indian cinema has lost an actress who belonged to an entirely different generation of performers—one who began her journey in black-and-white Telugu cinema and remained visible even as the industry transformed across decades. Sowcar Janaki's name, however, is inseparable from the history of South Indian cinema, and her performances will continue to live on through generations of movie lovers. Irumudi Movie Review
Cast: Ravi Teja, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Sai Kumar, Baby Nakshathra, Ajay Ghosh, Ramesh Indira, Swasika, Meesala Lakshman Crew: Cinematography by Vishnu Sarma Editing by Prawin Pudi Music by GV Prakash Kumar Written & Directed by Shiva Nirvana Produced by Naveen Yerneni & Y Ravi Shankar Banner - Mythri Movie Makers Ravi Teja has been crowned as Mass Maharaja of Telugu Cinema but his recent films did not live up to the hype and buzz surrounding them. But Irumudi has been different as movie got huge positive buzz from the beginning. Joining hands with a director like Shiva Nirvana and divine connection seems to have changed things for Ravi Teja. Let's discuss about the film in detail. Plot: Trinath (Ravi Teja) is an alcoholic but he loves his wife (Priya Bhavani Shankar) and daughter Manikanta (Baby Nakshatra) to the core. Every year he observes Ayyappa Deeksha and stays away from every vice for 41 days and he is popular as a singer. On the other hand, Sileru High school becomes a problematic aspect for the girls commuting from the Trinath's village. They have to go by bus to near by Donkapadu forest and then travel 5 KM by walk or bicycle. Guru Swamy (Sai Kumar)'s daughter Gayathri complains about this and he asks MLA (Ramesh Indra) to sanction at least bus. Meanwhile, high school girls are terrified by teacher (Swasika Vijay) and her special classes. Why? How Trinath and his daughter are connected to all this? Watch the movie to know more. Analysis: Ravi Teja has delivered his career best performance in the film. It is hard to find Ravi Teja as he completely immersed himself into the role of Trinath. We see only Trinath in his body language and his dialogue delivery too. We never saw Ravi Teja this restrained and in character and that is the biggest strength of the film. Baby Nakshatra is cute and her performance is life of the film. Priya Bhavani Shankar is good, Ramesh Indra, Sai Kumar and everyone did their best. GV Prakash Kumar's music and BGM stand-out. They carry the film flawlessly and create the necessary atmosphere for the thriller. Shiva Nirvana did his best in writing dialogues for the film. Each scene carries forward the emotion and delivers a strong humanitarian angle that the director posses. But screenplay wise after the big twist movie gets into predictable zone but climax emotion elevates the feel. The thought process on how two fathers' handle education and upbringing of girl child is beautifully presented by the director. Technically, movie is good as cinematography is handled very well. Production design and values by Mythri Movie Makers are perfect too. But editing could have been better in the second hour. Overall, the movie is worth a watch for the social message it intertwines into a thriller aspect. Ayyappa songs help the movie big time. Positives: Ravi Teja's Performance Baby Nakshatra scenes Strong emotional core Gayathri - Manikanta scenes GV Prakash Kumar music Socially Relevant Concept Negatives: Drag in second hour Slight predictability post big twist Sluggish narrative at places. Bottomline: A good and honest film that talks about women safety Rating: 3/5 Disclaimer: The views/opinions expressed in this review are personal views/opinions shared by the writer and organisation does not hold a liability to them. Ameer Log Movie Review
Cast: Veda Jalandhar, Hari Munnangi, Manoj Aavula, Shashidhar Kotcharla Kota, Ravan Nitturu, Viswendar Reddy, Pawan Ramesh Crew: Cinematography by Saliganti Vijay Kumar Music by Smaran Sai Edited by Rohit Penumatsa Written & Directed by Ramana Reddy Soma Produced by Madhavi Reddy Soma Ameer Log arrives in theaters promising an authentic story about Hyderabad's youth. With good buzz from its promotions and premieres, let's discuss how the movie fares. Plot: Srinu (Hari Munnangi), Rafiq (Manoj Aavula), and Mallesh (Shashidhar Kotcharla Kota) are childhood friends from an Old City basti. Though jobless and wandering aimlessly, they are innocent and good-hearted. Geetha (Veda Jalandhar), a software employee living in their area, is like a caring older sister to them. Geetha is in love with her team leader Ravi (Ravan Nitturu). However, when Ravi does a major injustice to the three friends, Geetha breaks up with him. Why did Ravi wrong these jobless youths, and how do they deal with it? Watch the movie to find out. Analysis: Even though the core story is simple, the movie runs smoothly with an engaging screenplay that never feels boring. The body language and dialogues of the characters feel incredibly natural. The first half easily pulls you into their world, highlighted by great character introductions, authentic gully boy moments, and fun cricket sequences. The interval and second half take a compelling turn, though the main conflict where the friends revolt against Ravi could have been presented stronger. The pre-climax and climax are handled well. The performances are a major highlight. Newcomers Hari, Manoj, and Shashidhar perfectly justify their roles, acting with the ease of seasoned professionals. Veda delivers a decent performance as Geetha, while the supporting cast does well within their limits. Director Ramana Reddy Soma succeeds well in his execution, though he could have focused a bit more on dialogues and entertainment. The editing is crisp and a big plus. While the production values are basic, the music and songs feel remarkably fresh and elevate the film. Positives: Lead actors' performances Engaging screenplay Fresh songs Direction Negatives: Underutilized scope for entertainment Conflict establishment could be stronger Basic production and cinematography values Bottomline: A simple, honest, and decently engaging tale of innocent Hyderabad basti boys. Rating: 2.75/5 Disclaimer: The views/opinions expressed in this review are personal views/opinions shared by the writer and organisation does not hold a liability to them. I am happy that VAS lived up to expectations - Venky Atluri
Suriya’s latest film VISWANATH & SONS, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Venky Atluri, features Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. Presented by Srikara Studios and produced jointly by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film hit theatres on August 14, 2026. With its natural humour, heartfelt emotions and relatable family drama, ‘VISWANATH & SONS’ is receiving an overwhelming response from audiences. The film has crossed the ₹150 crore gross mark worldwide within just four days and is continuing its successful run. In a recent interaction with the media, director Venky Atluri shared his happiness over the film’s success and spoke about Suriya’s faith in the story, the writing process, the film’s art work, Trivikram Srinivas’s reaction, Mamitha Baiju’s casting and several other interesting aspects of the film. How does it feel to receive such an overwhelming response for ‘VISWANATH & SONS’? I am extremely happy. The response has been phenomenal and far beyond what we expected. It is truly gratifying to see audiences embracing the film with so much love. What was Suriya sir’s reaction when he first heard the story? Suriya sir immediately liked the story. In fact, he was looking for a family-oriented film, and he had mentioned that to me. I already had this story ready, so I narrated it to him. He really connected with it. He felt that we should tell the story honestly without unnecessarily adding comedy or commercial elements. That is why we were particularly careful with the climax. We also made sure that no character was compromised in the process. Suriya sir watched the film a few days before its release. He was very happy because what he had believed in was exactly what he saw on screen. I feel very happy that we could live up to the faith he placed in the story. You are being praised for having the strength of writing seen in Trivikram Srinivas’s films. How do you feel about that comparison? Mani Ratnam sir and Trivikram sir are two of the biggest inspirations behind my decision to enter the film industry. So, being compared with Trivikram sir is a great honour for me. I also understand the responsibility that comes with such a compliment, and I will work even harder to live up to it. I particularly love Trivikram sir’s ‘Nuvvu Naaku Nachav’. The dialogues are entertaining and humorous, yet they convey profound truths about life. That film inspired me tremendously, and I enjoy writing in a similar space. How did the story of ‘VISWANATH & SONS’ originate? Initially, I wanted to write a story around a relationship involving a significant age difference. If a person reaches the age of 40 without getting married, there has to be a strong reason behind that decision. The story evolved around that idea. I believe that people are not inherently bad. Circumstances make them behave differently. That is one of the central ideas we tried to convey through the film. I conceived this story back in 2022. At that time, I did not write it keeping Suriya sir in mind. Once he liked the story, we made certain changes to suit his body language and screen presence. The art work, particularly the house set, has become one of the highlights of the film. What kind of homework went into creating it? Our production designer Banglan, cinematographer Nimesh and I sat together and discussed the visual design extensively. When we thought about the house, we did not want it to be merely spacious. We wanted it to feel fresh and different. At the same time, it had to reflect richness and grandeur while retaining a sense of novelty. We worked closely on achieving that balance. What was Trivikram sir’s reaction after watching ‘VISWANATH & SONS’? Trivikram sir really liked the film. Since he is involved in the production of films made under the Sithara Entertainments banner, he watches almost all the films associated with the banner. Usually, after watching a film, he suggests small changes or additions. But in the case of ‘VISWANATH & SONS’, he did not suggest any changes. He simply said that the film was very good. That meant a lot to me. How important was the editing process in shaping the film? In my view, every film becomes better on the editing table. We should not feel that everything we shoot necessarily has to be part of the final film. If we give the editor the freedom to make the best decisions for the film, the output will definitely improve. We followed the same approach with ‘VISWANATH & SONS’, and the editing played an important role in shaping the final product. The film was shot in Tamil, but the Telugu version is currently generating higher collections. What is your take on this? We shot the film in Tamil keeping Suriya sir’s market in mind. Compared to the Telugu states, Tamil Nadu has fewer theatres, and there is also a difference in ticket pricing. I feel that these factors have contributed to the difference in the initial collections. However, Tamil films generally have longer theatrical runs. We saw the same thing happen with ‘Karuppu’. I believe ‘VISWANATH & SONS’ will also have a strong long run in Tamil Nadu and eventually deliver substantial collections there. How did Mamitha Baiju come on board? After watching ‘Premalu’, I felt that Mamitha Baiju would be perfect for this role. She also has a good command of Tamil. To perform comedy effectively, an actor needs to have a strong understanding of the language and its nuances. Mamitha proved that she had exactly what the role required and did complete justice to the character. What is the reason behind continuing to make films with Sithara Entertainments? My relationship with the Sithara banner goes beyond money and agreements. It has evolved into a bond built on trust. They believed in me and gave me opportunities, and I would love to continue making more films with a banner that has placed such faith in me. Family films are once again witnessing strong theatrical collections. What do you think is the reason? There was a time when films across different genres were being made regularly. But over the last few years, the number of family-oriented films has reduced considerably. That is why, whenever a genuinely good family film comes along, audiences are eager to return to theatres. I believe the response to ‘VISWANATH & SONS’ is a reflection of that audience appetite for wholesome family entertainers. Sharwa's period drama Bhogi postponed due to VFX delay
Sharwanand's upcoming period action drama, Bhogi, has been postponed to allow the post-production team more time to perfect the film's extensive visual effects. Directed by Sampath Nandi, the film is set in a fictional village on the Telangana-Maharashtra border during the early 1960s. Because the narrative heavily relies on this rustic period backdrop, the makers have opted against rushing the theatrical release. Instead, they are prioritizing the CGI and VFX output to ensure it seamlessly integrates with the practical footage and maintains visual authenticity. The production team recently concluded a massive 30-day schedule dedicated to the film's climax, which was filmed on a specially erected large-scale set. With only a small portion of principal photography remaining, the primary focus has shifted to post-production. Produced by KK Radhamohan under the Sri Sathya Sai Arts banner, Bhogi features Sharwanand in a physically transformed role as Ganga, starring alongside female leads Anupama Parameswaran and Dimple Hayathi. The technical crew includes cinematographer Kishor Kumar and music director Bheems Ceciroleo. The production house is expected to announce a revised release date once the visual effects work reaches its final stages. The Odyssey becomes highest ever R-rated grosser
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has officially made box-office history. The epic has crossed $1.34 billion worldwide, overtaking Deadpool & Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The milestone puts The Odyssey ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine, which finished its theatrical run with around $1.338 billion worldwide in 2024. Nolan’s film has now become the latest R-rated title to break through the billion-dollar mark, following Joker, while Oppenheimer had previously reached $985 million. What makes the achievement more significant is the film’s genre and rating. Unlike the franchise-driven Deadpool & Wolverine, The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, mounted as a large-scale theatrical event. The film stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron, with Nolan directing and co-writing the film. The record also marks another major milestone for Nolan at the box office. The Odyssey has now surpassed his previous career-best, The Dark Knight Rises, which grossed about $1.08 billion worldwide. Current box-office projections suggest that the film could continue its run toward the $1.6 billion mark, potentially giving Nolan the biggest commercial success of his career by a considerable margin. Interestingly, The Odyssey has achieved the R-rated record even though Deadpool & Wolverine remains ahead domestically for now. The Marvel film collected roughly $632 million in North America, compared with around $515 million for Nolan’s film, meaning The Odyssey has built its record largely through its international performance. With its $1.34 billion global haul, The Odyssey has gone from being one of 2026’s biggest theatrical bets to becoming a historic box-office success. For Nolan, it is yet another reminder that an original filmmaker-led spectacle can still command enormous audiences worldwide—and this time, with an R rating. Telangana Government fixes new ticket prices
The Telangana government has issued a fresh set of orders fixing cinema ticket prices across single-screen theatres and multiplexes in the state. The new GO, issued on August 14, reclassifies theatres into different categories and sets minimum and maximum admission rates, bringing a more structured ticket pricing system into effect. Under the new rates, Non-AC theatres can charge Rs.30 to Rs.70 for non-premium tickets and Rs.50 to Rs.100 for premium tickets. AC/Air Cooled theatres can charge Rs.50 to Rs.150 for non-premium and Rs.100 to Rs.200 for premium tickets. Special theatres have been permitted to charge Rs.100 to Rs.250 for non-premium and Rs.200 to Rs.300 for premium/recliner seats, while multiplexes can charge Rs.100 to Rs.250 for regular seats and Rs.200 to Rs.300 for recliners. The government has also made it mandatory for every theatre, irrespective of its category or location, to keep 25% of its seats under the non-premium category. The new order also merges air-cooled theatres with the AC category, while such theatres have been given two years to convert to AC or collect non-AC charges. The special theatre category covers standalone screens equipped with facilities such as 7.1 or higher digital surround sound, 2K/4K projection and IMAX or large screens of 75 feet and above. The revised pricing structure comes after representations from the Active Telugu Film Producers Guild and individual producers seeking higher ticket rates for high-budget films and a streamlined approval process. The government has issued the latest order superseding the relevant 2021 provisions, giving theatres and the industry a clearly defined pricing structure across categories. Making Modern Missamma is as difficult as building a house
Modern Missamma is being produced under the Lasya & Mithuna Creations banner by Chiranjeevi Pamidi, Shiva Pamidi, Kiran Kumar Nalluri and Sravanthi Namburi. Sai Baba has provided the story and screenplay and is also directing the film. Harsha Narra, Tanmayi Khushi, Siju AR, Pramodini, Harika, Dr. Bhadram, Shivannarayana, Rakesh Rachakonda and others play key roles. The cinematography is handled by Sheshu Raj Daddala and Vijay Pidapa, while Aditya Papishetty is the editor and Balakrishna is the choreographer. Harikrishna Jagurothi heads the script department. Somesh Eripalli serves as the VFX Director and G. Pawan Kalyan is the Sound Designer. Upputholla Babu (Bobby) is the Executive Producer. The grand launch event of the film’s first single was held on Wednesday at Prasads Labs in Hyderabad. The song, composed by music director Gopi Sundar, features lyrics penned by Kittu Vissapragada. Titled ‘Better Be A Missamma’, the song showcases Harsha Narra in traditional Dhoti attire and Tanmayi Khushi in a traditional outfit. The song, which revolves around the heroine expressing her reluctance towards marriage, is designed to connect strongly with women. Speaking at the event, ‘Vadala’ producer Kishore Naidu said, “I recently watched the premiere of this film. Whenever I watch a movie, I usually look for flaws, but I couldn’t find even a single one in this film. I am confident that everyone who watches ‘Modern Missamma’ will enjoy it. Dr. Bhadram’s character, in particular, is extremely hilarious.” Hero Harsha Narra said, “After ‘Missing’ and ‘Roti Kapada Romance’, this is my third film. Both those films did not perform well commercially, but my struggle will never stop. I will continue to work hard. We didn’t make this film just with hard work; we made it with passion and love. The entire team worked like a group of friends. Tanmayi has performed extremely well. Gopi Sundar sir has given wonderful music for this song, and Kittu Vissapragada’s lyrics are something everyone can relate to. The film too will connect with audiences.” Heroine Tanmayi Khushi said, “‘Modern Missamma’ is the film I acted in after ‘23’. Back then, the song ‘Vaddura Sodaraa’ from Nagarjuna garu’s ‘Manmadhudu’ connected strongly with men. In the same way, I believe our song will connect with women today. I am very happy that the director has written this story from a woman’s point of view. My character will definitely connect with everyone.” Director Sai Baba said, “I am very happy with the response to this song. Elders often say, ‘Build a house, conduct a marriage, and see how it feels.’ I would like to add one more thing to that — ‘Make a film and see.’ I believe all three are equally challenging. I sincerely thank all the technicians, artists and our producer for supporting me throughout this journey. “Choosing a classic title like ‘Missamma’ requires courage. The earlier ‘Missamma’ films featuring NTR garu and Bhumika garu were both way ahead of their time. We believed that our film too had that kind of strength. Our artists proved through their performances that the title ‘Modern Missamma’ is truly justified. Gopi Sundar garu’s music will be another major plus for the film. “We are not saying that people should not get married through this film. Rather, if you want to understand what is required before getting married, you must watch ‘Modern Missamma’.” Producer Chiranjeevi Pamidi said, “‘Modern Missamma’ is the second film from our banner after ‘Calling Sahasra’. We did not get the result we expected from that film, but we strongly believe that this movie will receive a good response. Our hero Harsha has performed very well, and the heroine has also delivered an excellent performance. “We started this journey two years ago. Our intention was to make a film that suits the current trends, and we are very happy with the output. We completed the film within the planned time and budget. We consider that itself our first success. I thank everyone who worked on this film.” DOP Sheshu said that ‘Modern Missamma’ is an important chapter in his career and that the hard work of the entire team resulted in a quality output. Choreographer Balakrishna expressed his happiness about composing the title song for the movie. Anirudh dives into Malayali beats for Jailer 2
Anirudh Ravichander has recently delivered a sensational OST for DC and his work is regarded as the major reason for the movie becoming a blockbuster. Now, he is ready to serve a Malayali delight for first single of Jailer 2, Ala Bolelo. He used celebratory Malayalam beats to compose the song. The makers have released promo of the single and it features Shamna Kasim aka Poorna in a special appearance. She is in full white costumes also representing Onam festival vibes. The makers seem to be using the Onam festival timing to release the song on 21st August to further grow the buzz for the film. Superstar Rajinikanth is returning as Jailer in this film and the first glimpse track has already become highly popular. How Anirudh scores with this Onam celebration song needs to be seen. It is also interesting to see how director Nelson avoided any promo for track announcement and kept it simple. If the makers will use Mohanlal glimpses into the celebration song also needs to be seen as they have hinted at a star appearance in the beginning of the video, before revealing Rajinikanth. We have to wait and see, how the track will live up to expecations that Ani has set-up with DC tracks. GV Prakash predicts multiple National Awards for Irumudi
GV Prakash Kumar is known for his award-winning work, and the composer is now hoping to add another National Award to his list with Ravi Teja’s Irumudi. Ahead of the film’s August 21st release, the music composer spoke with strong confidence about the Shiva Nirvana directorial. He went beyond calling it a good film and predicted multiple National Awards for it. Interestingly, he is quite specific about where he sees the recognition coming from. GV Prakash believes Irumudi has the potential to win Best Regional Film as well as Best Child Artist, apart from other possible honours. He also called the film his favourite Ravi Teja film after Vikramarkudu and expressed confidence that it will become a memorable and trendsetting film for Telugu cinema. The composer revealed that Irumudi presented a different musical challenge as the story brings together devotion, psychology, crime, action and family emotions. He described Yalalo as the soul of the film, while Mallepoola Pallaki was recorded with the original singer and group to preserve its authentic devotional flavour. He also revealed that Ravi Teja particularly loves the climax song. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Irumudi stars Priya Bhavani Shankar and Baby Nakshatra in important roles. GV Prakash praised Shiva Niravana's unique narrative calling it the director's most serious film and he stated that the screenplay is terrific. With censor reports also pointing to film being a sure-shot winner, it would be interesting to see how it delivers post release. Venky NKR and Anil film title brings to mind old Vamsy classic
Venkatesh and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram are coming together for the first time with Anil Ravipudi, and the film has now got a title that instantly establishes its festive mood. The movie is titled January 12 Vidudala, with the caption “Bava Bammardi Soujanyamtho.” It brings to mind Vamsy classic April 1 Vidudala. Well, Anil did give tribute to EVV Satyanrayana following how he used Jandhyala's popular scene for GV Prakash announcement video. He used Appula Apparao famous scene an introduced the title. Venkatesh, Kalyan Ram, Keerthy Suresh and Krithi Shetty repeatedly ask the director about the title, but he keeps responding with “January 12 Vidudala.” Venkatesh eventually realizes that Anil has turned the film’s release date into its title. We can say that Anil Ravipudi gave tribute to two Rajendra Prasad films at one go. Interestingly, the title follows his recent trend of naming films with titles like Sankrantiki Vasthunnam, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu Pandakki Vasthunnaru and now, directly, release date in title. He seems to have grabbed Sankranti season on his name and this time though he might have to face though competition with 5-6 films eyeing the season crown. Sahu Garapati is producing this film, while Suresh Productions, Archana and Zee Studios are presenting it. GV Prakash Kumar is composing the music. The film shoot is progressing at a rapid pace and is set for worldwide release on January 12th. More details will be announced by the makers in coming days. TG Government orders big films to donate hiked prices
The Telangana government has issued an important order concerning the additional revenue generated through ticket price hikes for four upcoming big-ticket releases — Akhanda 2, The RajaSaab, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu Pandagaki Vasthunnaru and Peddi. According to the order, 20% of the additional revenue earned through the increased ticket prices has to be contributed towards the welfare of Telugu film industry employees. The government has authorized the concerned producers to collect the applicable 20% amount from their respective exhibitors on the additional revenue generated through ticket price hikes. The collected amount will then be deposited into the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation Welfare Association account, which is being operated through the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TGFDC). The order makes it clear that the contribution will apply specifically to the additional revenue generated because of the enhanced ticket prices, rather than the entire box office revenue of the films. The producers have been instructed to take the necessary steps to ensure that the applicable amount is collected and deposited in accordance with the existing government orders and guidelines. The move comes at a time when ticket price hikes for major-star films have become an important part of the theatrical business model in Telangana. Producers and exhibitors have increasingly sought government permission for higher ticket prices, particularly for high-profile releases, allowing films to generate significantly higher revenue during their opening days. Akhanda 2 starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, The RajaSaab starring Prabhas, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu Pandagakki Vasthunnaru featuring Chiranjeevi and Peddi starring Ram Charan are among the major films covered by the latest order. With all four projects positioned as major theatrical releases, the additional revenue from approved ticket hikes could be substantial. The government's decision effectively links the benefit of ticket price hikes with a welfare contribution to the film industry's workforce. The 20% contribution will be routed through TGFDC to the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation Welfare Association, creating a formal mechanism for utilizing a portion of the additional theatrical revenue towards employee welfare.
