Will Mani Ratnam unite with Rajinikanth too?

Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam is back to directing big budget flicks post Ponniyin Selvan. He took a huge life risk to make his dream project and the two part movie became a blockbuster. Ponniyin Selvan-I has become an all-time blockbuster by grossing over Rs.200 crores for the first time ever in Tamil Nadu state.
Even in Worldwide gross numbers, it ended up in second position below 2.0 during its original theatrical run. After such a huge box office hit, he had decided to work with Kamal Haasan for Thug Life film. He converted it into another multi-starrer as Simbu is also playing another leading role in it.
It is reported the director finished the shooting at rapid pace and Kamal Haasan saw the rough cut as well. The multi-faceted actor expressed satisfaction with the cut and output. According to reports, he even expressed his desire to continue working with Mani Ratnam for few more films.
On other hand, new reports suggest that Rajinikanth has also approached the director for a film. In fact, the Superstar even expressed a desire to the director to think about a multi-starrer project with him and Kamal Haasan, as well. While the later part is hard to believe, we can anticipate a movie of Rajinikanth in the direction of Mani Ratnam, say reports.
If the reports are true, Rajinikanth after 33 years will be collobarating for a film with Mani Ratnam. Their only film till date, Thalapathy, has attained cult classic status among fans and movie-lovers. The movie did become a success but it was not a Basha level or Annamalai range success at the box office during its run.
While the reports are suggesting for a possible great collaboration, Rajinikanth at Vettaiyan audio release event, stated that he told director T.J. Gnanavel that Thalapathy kind of films are great but they won't become huge blockbusters at the box office. He needs mix of both but not just one kind of a genre.
So, will there be a collaboration between Thalapathy combination? It is hard to confirm but if it does materialise and confirmation does arrive on December 12th, Rajinikanth's birthday, it would be dream come true for many.
