Legendary director and All Time Great Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday morning in the early hours. The actor-director is known for his intense films on national integrity and patriotism. He made films like Upkar, Purab aur Paschim, Shor, Roti Kapda aur Makaan, Kranti as a director.
The actor's signature style of acting made him prominent and earned him a nickname Bharat Kumar for his patriotic themes. His real name was Harikishan Goswami and his family moved to India from Pakistan during partition. He expressed his grief over missing his native place of his parents in many interviews.
The Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner started his career in 1957 with Fashion and grew into prominence as a director with Upkar. He was conferred with Padma Shri by Union Government and his contribution to Indian Cinema has been rated invaluable.
The actor-director passed away at the age of 87 years with a long medical issues and had a political affiliation with Bharatiya Janta Party. His family have expressed immense grief over his demise.
