Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth or rapid weight changes. It is a form of scarring on the skin. They are caused by tearing of the dermis, which over time may diminish, but will not disappear completely. Stretch marks may also be influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, bodybuilding, hormone replacement therapy, etc. Well, it is shocking to know that stretch marks are also due to the odds of our genes

The main reason being pregnancy thus concluding that women are more prone to stretch marks than men. Other factors include sudden gain or loss of weight, stress, hereditary factors and changes in physical environment.

As our skin consists of three layers: Epidermis, Dermis and Hypodermis. When the skin is stretched the collagen is weakened and its normal production cycle is interrupted and damaged, this ultimately results in fine scars on top layer of skin.

Fortunately there are several natural methods to reduce the appearance of stretch marks:

• Take a slice of Potato and rub over the scar and then wash with Lukewarm water

Aloe Vera is very effective in treating the skin problems, directly rub the Aloe gel

Lemon juice is naturally acidic which helps in healing and reducing stretch marks, allow the skin to soak in lemon juice and then rinsed off with warm water

• Massage with warm olive oil over stretch marks will improve blood circulation and thus heal the scars

Cocoa butter is the best home remedy. Applying cocoa butter over the affected area twice a day will remarkably reduce the visibility of the scars

• Apply whipped egg whites over scarred skin, after drying, rinsed off with cold water
