ATA celebrated India Independence day on Aug 20, 2011 at Akbar Restaurant in NY. The theme was to explain India's independence, achievements, bring awareness on Indian Culture and Tradition to the next generation Indians. The program started with a welcome address by Madhu Sudan Reddy followed by American and Indian National Anthems sung by children. Mr Vaddepally Krishna, Telugu poet inspired the audience with his poetic speech about India and Indian Independence. Children as young as 3 years danced to patriotic/classical songs and glued the audience to their seats. A slide show was presented to highlight how Independence was achieved and India's progress.
Dr Rajender Jinna, President of ATA in his speech highlighted the importance of promoting Indian culture and tradition to the children by Indian Organizations. He mentioned that ATA is putting efforts into senior activities as well. Dr.Jinna also highlighted few ATA projects and reminded the audience regarding the upcoming 12th ATA conference and youth convention in Atlanta on July 6th, 7th and 8th, 2012.
During the occasion Dr.Jinna honored Telugu poet Vaddepally Krishna and the AAPI President Dr.Sunita Kanumuri who expressed willingness to partner with ATA to promote health awareness and health education for the community. Trophies were presented to all the participants.
Dr.Srinivas Reddy recognized the community leaders and Balwant Kommidi announced the upcoming ATA Dussera celebrations in NJ on Oct 9, 2011. After the recognition of ATA North east board members the program was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr.Parshuram Reddy. ]
