Telugu Desam Party senior leader and former minister Devender Goud's visit to Adilabad on Tuesday to campaign for party candidate Payal Shanker turned into a bloody affair. Tension prevailed in Ramnagar Colony in Adilabad town when some Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and TDP activists had a verbal duel and even slashed their wrists with blades during electioneering. All of them were arrested and rushed to hospital for treatment.

The incident happened when Devender Goud along with some party activists reached Adilabad around 12 noon and started campaigning in the coloney. Some youths of the colony and TRS activists obstructed the TDP rally and said that they would not allow the TD cadre to proceed without making clear their stand on Telangana. When the TDP activists surged ahead without paying any attention, the pink party activists cut their wrists with blades. In response, a couple of TDP activists too slashed their wrists with blades showing their determination to go ahead with the campaign.

Sensing that the situation was spiraling out of control, police swung into action and arrested the activists of both parties and shifted them to police station. The injured were shifted to Adilabad Hospital. Speaking to media, Goud said Telangana can be achieved only through agitations but not through bypolls.
