The ace IT company Infosys Limited is planning to double the current strength by recruiting 5,000 people at its 448-acre Pocharam campus here by the end of the year 2012. A company team, which met state IT minister Ponnala Laxmaiah, to brief him about the progress along with the issues facing the company in expanding the facility, informed him about their recruitment plans for the campus.
The new campus is one of the largest facilities being set up by any Indian software company in the country. Infosys started operations last year after facing initial glitches. The company had promised to provide 25,000 jobs over a period of 10 years when it had signed an MoU with the state government in 2007. However, the facility is now being built to accommodate as many as 62,000 employees, an official release said.
The company currently employs close to 20,000 software professionals together in its existing as well as new campuses in Hyderabad. As on December 2011, it had about 145,000 employees working across its facilities. Infosys had earlier indicated that the construction of the phase one project would be completed by June, 2012, with an investment of about Rs 980 crore. The total headcount at the new campus is expected to be about 14,000 people by March 2013. The new facility was notified as an IT special economic zone in 2008.
