TDP Likely to Support Pranab in President Polls

The TDP is likely to support the candidate Pranab Mukherjee for the post of the President. Though there was no formal call from the UPA or Pranab himself, Naidu told the party’s politburo members that it would be ideal to support Pranab Mukherjee, rather than Ram Jethmalani or P A Sangma, whose candidatures are being opposed by the Opposition parties. “In any case, we are not going to get anything by adopting a rigid stand on Presidential elections and firmly opposing Pranab. It is better we go by the majority opinion,” Naidu is learnt to have said.
However, party sources say Naidu would have supported APJ Abdul Kalam, had he agreed to contest the polls. Since Kalam opted out of the race politely, Naidu has no option but to support Pranab Mukherjee, sources said.
