Retired district judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao, his son Anil Kumar and suspended CBI judge T. Pattabhirama Rao’s son Ravichandra were taken into custody by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) following raids on their houses here by the agency in connection with the cash-for-bail scam involving Pattabhirama Rao.

The ACB conducted simultaneous raids on Mr. Pattabhirama Rao’s flat at judges’ quarters in Banjara Hills, Mr. Chalapathi Rao’s house at Ashoknagar here and his brother Srinivas Rao’s house at their native Chilakaluripet in Guntur district from the early hours on Saturday.

Another team of ACB also left for Bellary in Karnataka to search the house of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s brother Somasekhar Reddy who was personally involved in negotiating the deal with Mr. Pattabhirama Rao.

The officials whisked away in their car Ravichandra to Ashoknagar branch of Corporation Bank where a few lockers were issued to him recently after completing the search at judges’ quarters. Similarly, Mr. Chalapathi Rao and his son were also driven away to an undisclosed place.

The ACB will, however, have to get the permission of the A. P. High Court for arresting Pattabhirama Rao.
