Former PCC president D Srinivas, whose candidature as MLC was okayed by the Congress high command on Sunday night yesterday, has filed his nomination papers today. All the stalwarts of the party including the Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy and the PCC chief Botsa accompanied D Srinivas for filing of the nomination.

Talking to the media at Congress Legislature Party Office after Mr Srinivas filed nomination papers for the council seat, PCC incumbent president Botsa Satyanarayana said there was no link between nominating former PCC Chief D Srinivas (DS) for the Legislative Council Seat and the Telangana issue. He said the party recommended Mr Srinivas' name considering his vast experience as he was twice PCC chief. Denying the reports the selection of Mr Srinivas for Legislative Council seat was done directly by the Party High Command, he said the choice (of Mr Srinivas) was made in the State after consulting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and party senior leaders. There is no link between the Telangana and DS selection for seat, he clarified and said the selection had been done without regard to religion, caste and region.

Meanwhile the party’s leaders from Telangana felt it was the move in the direction of liberation of the separate state hood. They welcomed the move and felt that this would aid their movement largely. They also felt that it was the recognition given to DS for single handedly leading the party towards victory in the past. Among the people who appreciated the decision were the party’s MP Madhu Yashki, Minister Basavaraju Parayya and MLA G Venkataramana Reddy.
