The police is worried that the two major political events slated for Tuesday in Telangana may turn violent YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy's Rythu Deeksha in Armoor, Nizamabad, and Telugu Desam chief N. Chandra-babu Naidu's protest rally at Khairatabad in the city. The YSR Congress chief's 48-hour Deeksha is being strongly opposed by Telangana activists and his yatra might turn violent, on the lines of Mr Naidu's exercise on Friday last. Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy will be travelling by road to Armoor from Hyderabad. Mr Naidu meanwhile will be protesting on the arterial Khairatabad road in the city against the proposed power tariff hike. He and other TD leaders will be staging a protest at Vidyut Soudha in Khairatabad. A rally will be taken out from NTR Bhavan to Vidyut Soudha at 10 am and the dharna will start at 11 am. Police is likely to arrest Mr Naidu and other TD leaders before they reach Vidyut Soudha as traffic on the Khairatabad could be paralysed. This will trigger massive jams on adjoining roads, all of which will be choc-a-bloc with vehicles at that hour.
Several organisations have given a local bandh call and planned protests, demanding that Mr Jagan make a favourable statement on Telangana. The Nizamabad police has made tight security arrangements for Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy. A police official said, "Though there will not be 5,000 policemen like for Mr Naidu's visit, we have made enough security arrangements."
The police has asked people to stay away from Banjara Hills Road No. 2, KCP Junction, Panjagutta and Somajiguda and Khairatabad from 10 am to noon. "There is a likelihood of traffic jams in these areas due to the TD rally and dharna. People should take alternative routes depending on the situation," said a traffic official.
