Visakhapatnam: Police Opens Fire on Agitating Fishermen

Fishermen in Thikkavanipalem of Visakhapatnam district are agitating against pollution caused by the NTPC ash-pond in their area. On Thursday morning the villagers in large groups gathered in front NTPC Pump House raising slogans in protest. They tried to storm into the pump house leading to a skirmish with the CISF jawans at the place. The protestors were then lathicharged and dispersed.
Later in the afternoon, the protestors again tried to enter the premises, when CISF jawans resisted them. There ensued stone pelting between the CISF force and the protestors. The jawans even pelted stones on the media personnel present there. after sometime when situation was going out of hands, the CISF opened fire injuring two persons. While one person sustained simple injuries, bullet pearced through other person's head, it is said.
