Telugu Community welcomes Hon CGI Parvathaneni Harish Telugu community gathered to welcome Hon. Parvathaneni Harish, the newly appointed Consul General of India at Pasand Irving Restaurant on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Prasad Thotakura, TANA President introduced Hon. CGI Harish to the gathering as he is the first of person of Telugu origin to assume this highest position in US consulate history.
Hon. CGI Harish joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1990, he has learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo and passed the examination with distinction. He has served in Indian Mission in Cairo and Riyadh and headed the post as Indian Representative to the Palestinian Authority stationed in Gaza city. He thereafter worked in the East Asia and External Affairs. He also worked as the Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Hon'ble Vice President of India Mr. Hamid Ansari. Hon. Harish grew up in Vijayawada, attended NSM Public School, Layola College and graduated from Osmania University, Hyderabad with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
Prasad Thotakura and Dr. S. Raghavendra Prasad, former TANA President felicitated Hon. CGI Harish with a shawl, Manju Kanneganti, TANA SW Regional Representative presented a bouquet of flowers. Chalapathi Rao Kondrakunta, TANA Membership promotion Chair and Dr. Bhanumathi Ivatury, TANA Social Services Chair presented a token appreciation to Hon. CGI and his wife Nandita. Geeta Damannas, TANTEX President and Suresh Manduva, TANTEX President-elect also felicitated Hon. CGI by presenting a shawl and a bouquet of flowers.
Several members actively participated in Q&A session with Hon. CGI Harish. CGI Harish requested the gathering to submit their suggestions, ideas and complaints so that he can serve the community better. CHI Harish thanked Prasad Thotakrua for organizing a grand welcome reception in such a short notice and also thanked all for attending the event.

The great Telugu leader and visionary, late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s vardhanthi was observed on September 7th, 2012 in Farmington, MI. A decision to participate in Lok Satta party internal elections is taken by its overseas supporters. People For LokSatta, a political non profit based in USA, organized a global conference call to promote internal elections of LSP Andhra Pradesh state unit. Prasanna Meda, from Bay Area, lauded Lok Satta party for standing for real internal democracy and also for becoming the first party to give voting rights to NRIs. Raghava Solipuram, from Houston, explained the benefits of membership and emphasized the importance of membership for electing strong leaders.
Dallas Area Telangana Association (DATA) hosted Telangana Cultural and Banquet Night on Saturday, September 15th at Colleyville Center, Colleyville TX on a grand note, with over 600 Dallas area NRIs attending the event. Colleyville center was decorated for the night with Telangana backdrop all over the center and main attraction being photo exhibition of Telangana’s ten district unique culture. Banquet started with Mohan Padigala welcoming the hall filled gathering and then inviting Mr. Sridhar Reddy, former AP sports council president, a staunch Telangana supporter on to the stage.

As part of a delegation from the US state, Catherine O’Malley, wife of Maryland's Governor Martin O'Malley visited the NGO Sphoorti Foundation in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The kids at the Foundation welcomed the first lady of Maryland with a bunch of roses and smiling faces. The delegation from the US state is here to sign 'Sister State' agreement between Andhra Pradesh and Maryland.
In a scenic ranch setting in North Dallas, more than two hundred Telugu families gathered to felicitate President elect Mr. Prasad Thotakura, Mr. Ram Yalamanchili and Smt.Manjulatha Kanneganti.
