The ACB raids during last few days revealed that the liquor syndicate of traders in Andhra Pradesh were making regular payments to politicians, officials and even to some journalists to protect liquor sales at over 30 percent of the maximum retail price. According to sources, 5 ministers and nearly 60-70 legislators are allegedly part of a strong mafia that is controlling the liquor business in the state.
Strangely, the ACB hasn't registered cases against the offenders, but submitted invistigation report in a sealed cover to the chief minister. Though the none of the names of ministers and MLAs involved in the scam are revealed, the main opposition party TDP is naming PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana and minister Mopidevi Venkataramana as the kingpins behind the liquor syndicate.
The opposition is targeting both Botsa Satyanarayana and Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkatramanna. There are allegations that several ministers and their relatives are into liquor business and that they also run "belt shops" or the illegal outlets of the licensed shops. Even names of several journalists and persons related to electronic media are also figuring in the scam.
