Finally the police have re-constructed the events - How Kiran Reddy got killed by her drunken husband, Dr S. Chaitanya Reddy, in a fit of rage after an argument over his behaviour at a party. Kiran Reddy, niece of the Union minister Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, was married to doctor-cum businessman Dr Soma Chaitanya Reddy, about five years ago. The couple stayed at Nyaya Vihar, Road No. 78, in Jubilee Hills along with their fouryear-old daughter.
On June 17, the couple had attended a bachelor's party thrown by Kiran's brother, Mr Sunil Reddy. Police reconstructed the events from Chaitanya's confession, their own investigations and the postmortem report. According to the police, "After the party at around 1 am, while they were having dinner, the restaurant management turned off the lights abruptly since the police had reached the spot as the restaurant was open after 1 am." Chaitanya who was heavily drunk at that time - he had drunk 11 pegs of alcohol including eight pegs of whisky and three vodka shots according to the police - asked the management to turn the lights back on. The restuarant management kept telling him that they would do so but they didn't. Irked with this Chaitanya picked up a quarrel with manager Srinivas and abused him. As the situation turned ugly, Kiran and her relatives apologised to the manager and took Chaitanya out of there.
On their way home, Kiran allegedly reprimanded Chaitanya for embarrassing her in front of their relatives and friends. They reached home at 1.15 am and Kiran called her brother and informed him that they had reached safely, and slept in another room. Chaitanya asked her to come back to their room, but she refused saying that she did not like what he had done in the restaurant. A heated argument ensued between the couple during which Chaitanya pushed her against a wall and she suffered a minor head injury. Kiran fought back and Chaitanya smothered her using a pillow, though his intention was not to kill her. Kiran suffocated to death under the pillow. Without realising that she was dead, he went into his bedroom and slept. Early on June 18, he walked into her room and realised that she was dead. He tried to cover up the murder and made it appear as if it was a natural death. He alerted Kiran's father, Mr Raghottam Reddy and shifted her to a hospital in Jubilee Hills where she was declared brought dead. “The post-mortem report and scientific evidence revealed that the cause of Kiran’s death was ‘smothering.’ Based on the report the police took Chaitanya into custody and during interrogation he confessed,” Mr Ravindra said. West Zone DCP, Mr Stephen Ravindra told "The post-mortem report and scientific evidence revealed that the cause of Kiran's death was 'smothering.' Based on the report Chaitanya was taken into custody and during interrogation he confessed."
