Andhra Pradesh Prohibition and Excise Minister Mopidevi on Wednesday refuted charges against him levelled by a liquor mafia don. Ramana, an organiser of a liquor syndicate in Khammam, had earlier claimed to have paid the minister`10 lakh and varying amounts to others to ‘buy’ protection for his illegal business. Refuting the charges, minister Mopidevi said that the person Ramana, who is making baseless and false allegations against him, has a criminal background. Ramana was involved in many cases of ganja smuggling and liquor sale offenses. I'm not able to understand, how the investigating agencies have believed his utterings and mentioned in their report that I was paid Rs. 10 lakhs through my friend Raja. "I would ask the chief minister to order a thorough probe in to the incident how the investigating agencies have mentioned my name in the report without having any proper evidence. I will also demand for a strict action against the person who is making false accusations.
