As per the prevailing norms, the state advisors including D A Somayajulu have submitted their resignations when Kiran Kumar Reddy took over as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in November last year. In an unexpected move, Somayajulu took decision to quit immediately as state economic advisor and plunge in to active politics by joining the YSR Congress and urged the CM to accept his resignation.
This unexpected decision of Somayajulu has certainly put the chief minister in a tight spot as Somayajulu enjoys enormous clout with at least five to six cabinet ministers and an equal number of IAS officers and at least one IPS officer. The apprehension in the Kiran camp is that thanks to Somayajulu, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy can become privy to key issues being contemplated by the state government. Somayajulu had played a key role in the YSR regime implementing the free power sop and the reason he is shifting to the Jagan camp is believed to be the presence of Rajya Sabha MP K V P Ramachandra Rao who Somayajulu's aides claim stymied the influence of the latter. More than this, the move is being read as the economic advisor's vote of confidence in Jagan and against Kiran.
