All the Telangana Congress leaders who have resigned their posts will formally meet after July 10 to decide on future strategy. It appears that the delegation of ministers, MPs and legislators who have been meeting the Congress central leadership in Delhi over the past two days, has not been able to get any firm assurance about granting statehood to Telangana. As the stalemate continues, the 100-odd resignations are still being “considered”.
Though they had nothing concrete to show from their Delhi trip, the panchayati raj minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy told newsmen on his return on Wednesday evening that the delegation was confident that the party high command would take a positive decision on Telangana soon. “We have briefed the party high command on the need to grant separate state and the reasons that forced us to resign. We cannot withdraw the resignations at this stage unless we get a firm assurance on separate statehood,” the Karimnagar MP Mr Ponnam Prabhakar, told this correspondent.
Minister Mr Sailajanath, MPs Mr Undavalli Arun Kumar, Mr K.S. Rao, Mr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and senior Congress legislator Mr J.C. Diwakara Reddy met the Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and asked for time for a delegation from the state to meet him on July 13, 14. They have also sought an appointment with other party leaders.
