An obscure village in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, Samsthan Narayanpur, infamous as one of the worst fluoride-affected areas in the district, suddenly shot into limelight with the visit of the magnanimous beauty queens. The accredited beauty queens Miss Canada 2010 Briget Nikarson, Miss Sweden 2009 Nenith Karlagen, Miss Earth 2010 Mangolia Nicole and Miss Iceland Fenny Ingworth visted the village on Wednesday. Uniformed students holding flags, girls carrying ‘bonalu' and lambada women dancing in gay abandon gave a rousing reception to the beauties, who kept waving, cheering and blowing kisses to the audience at the ZP High School Grounds. The venue was filled with people, who seemed to be keen to get as close as possible to the women, who were most colourfully dressed. The beauties worshipped at the local Shiva temple, planted saplings to mark their visit and interacted with physically/mentally challenged children besides those afflicted with fluoride. They promised that they and the foundation would take care of their interests and provide tricycles.
The event was organized by Sikha Satish, founder of ‘Healthy Kids Happy Kids', who, as a fashion designer, was abroad for several decades and is the first Indian to hoist the tricolour on Antarctica. A resident of Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad, he is also a Guinness record holder.
