Indian Army personals have been demanding one rank-one pension since last two decades. Although their demand is justified, it was not addressed until now. Hence, veteran army personals have been staging indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar at New Delhi. Modi government is reportedly completed its exercise on this problem. However, still some delay is taking place in making official announcement and it is very much irking the agitating ex-servicemen.
Actually, they have expected an official announcement in Modi’s speech made from Red Fort on August 15th. But, Modi promised to resolve their problem very shortly but committed any exact date for it. Since then, Modi government is trying to pursue them to end their strike, but they determined to continue till the government makes an announcement on this matter.
Once again, they have expected an announcement on Friday on the eve of the golden jubilee celebrations of India's capture of the Haji Pir Pass on August 28, 1965. President Pranab Mukherjee began these celebrations today with paying tribute to martyrs at the war memorial Amar Jawan Jyoti. But, the veteran army personals, including Wing commander (Retd) KS Parihar, who was a part of the team that won Haji Pir has stayed away from these golden jubilee celebrations for the same reasons. He said he also will join the strike from today onwards.
Defence Minister Manohar Parikar told them that Prime Minister has signed the related files on 15th August itself, but the government needs few more days’ time to make an official announcement as the related files are in the last leg of processing. But, the agitating ex-servicemen are very much upset for government seeking more time to make an announcement. Hence they decide to continue their strike.
