Veteran Kannada writer Kalaburgi murdered

Veteran Kannada writer and former vice-chancellor of Hampi University MM Kalaburgi was shot by unidentified gunman at his home in Dharwad in Karnataka state on Sunday. Two miscreants came on bike. One of them went into Kalaburgi house and shoots him on his forehead from point blank range, while he was doing his morning walk in his garden. Later, the miscreants flee away from the spot. Family members rushed Kalaburgi to hospital, but he was died due severe to internal bleeding in the head.
Kalaburigi started his professional career as a teacher in his home town Dhawad in 1962. Karnataka government honors him by appointing him as vice-chancellor of Hampi University. He earned many prestigious awards including National literary award, Kannada Sahiti Award, Pampa Award etc. for his contribution to Kannada literature. Police suspect that some Hindu radical groups might have killed him as he was used to preach not to worship stones (idols). However, no one has claimed responsibility for his murder. Police registered a case and begins investigation.
