Vetrimaaran became one of the biggest and most important directors of Indian Cinema. Each one of his film has become popular and Vada Chennai, Aadukalam, Asuran have cult following too. His Vidhuthalai Part-1 became a huge blockbuster and now, Viduthalai Part-2 released on 20th December 2024. Soori became a box-office hero from being a comedian with the first part. In the second one, Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathy is playing most prominent leading role along with Soori. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

Perumal(Vijay Sethupathy) starts his life as a school teacher. His ideology doesn't let him work peacefully and he starts to fight against oppressors. He marries Mahalakshmi(Manju Warrier) and then a traumatic incident involving Karuppan(Ken Karunas) shakes him completely. He meets KK(Kishore) and that leads into a violent path and becomes Makkal Padai. Now, he is caught by police after a long time and the current story continues as Perumal is looking for a solution for the local issues.

Analysis:

Vijay Sethupathy once again delivered one of his best performances. He is able to bring out his best as Perumal, handling different shades with great panache. His performance keeps the first half far more engaging as few portions feel slightly stretched. Soori is also good in his performance but his role is slightly limited from the first one. Manju Warrier and Ken Karunas leave their mark in few scenes given to them.

Vetrimaaran is one of the best storyteller and it is evident with this film, too. Even though first hour could have been more crisper but the movie finds its pace in the second half. The climax leaves a huge impact on us with the performances, mainly, Vijay Sethupathy's performance. Vetrimaaran finds a way to establish the problem and find a different solution as well.

Even performances from Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon and Chetan keep haunting us throughout the film. Ilaiyaraaja's impressive score and melodies keep the impact intact. Still, the preachiness in dialogues does hurt a little bit in the first half. The point that Vetrimaaran wanted to make is loud and clear. The equality that people wish to be present in the society has been a by-product of many moments and it should be nurtured and saved for all.

Never ever the solution for a problem lies in violence and that's what he conveys in an undertone. The movie is another solid movie from a master filmmaker as the technical values and production values are once again top tier. Had the dialogues been not so preachy, movie would have had much bigger impact.

In Conclusion:

Vetrimaaran and Vijay Sethupathy deliver!

Rating: 2.5/5
