Rajamouli’s Logic About Piracy and Rates
on Jul 8, 2015
Master craftsmen filmmaker Rajamouli takes heavily on piracy whenever his films look forward for a release. After he made a huge hungama about the issue during his “Eega”, he now resurfaced with anti-piracy press meet years later this time for “Baahubali”. At this venue, few questions posed by media have irked this director.
A media person asked as Rajamouli is taking heavily on people committing to piracy, “Rajamouli, don’t you think the increased ticket rates are responsible for piracy?” By now it became very open that Baahubali release day tickets are costing a bomb as theatres are selling them for exceeded prices in the name of special shows. Imagine how many tickets would actually get sold over ticket counters and how many would go into black market.
Rajamouli answered this saying, “Even when the ticket rate is 10 rupees, there was piracy. So this issue is not linked to ticket rates”. It’s quite logical, however many cinema critics don’t agree with him, because they feel that as long as people are willing to watch movies on piracy, that encourages piracy-makers. Only if ticket rates are slashed, then piracy may go down, felt many.
