2024 Roundup: The Hits of Telugu Cinema

On the last day of 2024, we are all wondering about how to welcome the New Year 2025 but cinema lovers in every Telugu person would be wondering about listing out the hits, misses, good and disappointing films of the year from the language. A whopping total of 332 films, including direct to OTT releases, have been released in Telugu. Out of all of them, it is heart-breaking to see only 16 films have ended up being profitable to producers, theatrically and non-theatrically, excluding OTT commissioned films.
There is no standard metric to determine the success of OTT films that is universally agreed upon. Mostly, the platforms describe the viewing minutes and hours for a particular film. Mostly, there are no ground-breaking hits that became popular except for theatrical releases also becoming popular on OTT platforms upon release.

Interestingly, big stars films did not end up as losses for producers - Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Mahesh Babu and Jr. NTR had their releases this year and each one of them emerged profitable for producers. More importantly, among senior star heroes, Nagarjuna Akkineni managed to use Sankranti festival for his advantage to deliver a hit with Naa Saami Ranga.
Nani's Saripodhaa Sanivaaram became one of his biggest hits while Teja Sajja and Siddhu Jonnalagadda surprised everyone with Hundred crore grossers with HanuMan and Tillu Square, respectively. Kiran Abbavaram gave a strong comeback with KA and Dulquer Salmaan surprised many with Lucky Baskhar.
Coming to other profitable ventures, low to medium budget films could impress audiences with variety. Mathu Vadalara 2 emerged as a highly popular comedy entertainer and along with Tillu Square, Pushpa 2 The Rule, it cemented the belief over a strong and established IP to be continued as a franchise among producers.
