Sound Meditation

The final ambition of meditation is to gain tranquillity and attain stable mind. There are a lot of schools in Meditation... some being old and some being modern, and some being a fusion of both. Sound Mediation is one such practice. Let’s have a look at the way to practice it...
Before starting the meditation, close your ears with ear plugs. This would allow your mind to focus on the inner sounds rather than getting disturbed by the external ones. These ear plugs could be available at any medical stores.
Sit in a comfortable posture. Whether you are sitting on a floor or on a chair... be assured that you are comfortable. But make sure that you are not leaning back on anything. Let your spine be straight.
Let your chin be tucked down by a fraction. Close your eyes, but don’t force your eyelids either to look upwards or downwards. Let them stay in between. Don’t excrete any pressure on your eyelids. Leave them freely.
Take a deep breath and take it slowly. Count number 10 while you are taking your first breath. Let your count be in the descending order with every breath you take until you reach 0. With every such breath, feel that your body and mind are getting much relaxed.
As your mind and body get relaxed, you might be hearing some feeble sounds from inwards. Different people might hear different sounds. Some might hear the sound of a buzz and some hear a sound similar to that of a Counchshell. Your mind would automatically concentrate on the new sound and you need not force it to meditate on the sound.
Don’t panic if your mind is overwhelmed by thoughts. Don’t try to suppress your thoughts and you would see that the mind would shift its focus automatically towards the inner sound.
After a few days or few weeks... the inner sounds might be changing or getting feeble. You would realise that your mind is getting calm and stable. Some might even feel an emotion of tranquillity emerging from their heart. And that is a hint that you have reached the level of perfection in Sound Meditation.
