Stalemate on seat sharing between BJP and Shivsena continues in Maharashtra even when hardly 25 days left for the state assembly elections. While BJP is demanding 50 percent seats out of 288 seats, Shivsena is offering only 133 seats to it, while wants to keep the rest to self. BJP is pressurizing Shivsena to quickly react to its proposal otherwise is obliged to snap ties its two decade long alliance with it.
However, Shivsena is not ready to succumb to BJP pressures. Both parties argue that it is a matter of self-respect and hence can’t step back on their stands. The ruling Congress party will be quite happy if they snap ties, as it will weaken their strength in the state. BJP has fared very poor during latest by-elections held in Maharashtra. So, the general belief is if BJP fails to strike a deal with Shivsena and it leads to triangular contest in the state, obviously it will benefit ruling Congress party.
