Hollywood in shock with Joker 2 OTT release date

on Oct 15, 2024

Joker 2 aka Joker: Folie à Deux movie has bombed at the box office unlike the expectations of big Hollywood studios. Many anticipated the movie to at least collect half ogf the huge blockbuster returns, the first one managed to collect. Joker collected over US$1 Billion but the second one is struggling to even cross US$200 Million, worldwide.

The movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga has seen a historic collapse in its second weekend after opening for 4th October weekend in USA. In India, the first one did good business but the second one, released on 2nd October, failed to even get a decent opening. The musical drama just failed to strike a chord and has been a catastrophic box office performer.

Joker 2 is anticipated to lose over US$150 Million possibly close to US$200 Million as production budget is said to be US$200 Million and total budget with P&A is US$300 Million. In USA, the movie collected just US$51 Million in two weeks and all around the world, the movie has been just unimpressive.

Todd Phillips, the director, seems to have killed his own Joker film franchise trying to go on a detour from real Joker. While people wanted to watch a supervillain taking over world kind of a movie, they got a courtroom drama musical that just never kicks off.

Now, WB Movies is thinking about releasing Joker 2 on OTT for streaming on 29th October. Within a month of theatrical release, if a movie on that magnitude debut on streaming platforms so early, it would be disastrous to superhero genre. It is high time for DC Comics and WB Movies try to give more fan pleasing content for them to be still in reckoning.
