With the increased incidents of honour killings across the state, the Tamilnadu High court has yesterday suggested various measures to be taken to prevent such occurrences. The bench has passed the order during the hearing of a petition by B. Dilipkumar, a Dalit whose upper caste wife was murdered in a case of honour killing. The court has ordered a special cell to be created in each district to receive the threat complaints from the couples who had inter caste marriage.
The court has also suggested that a fund should be set up to look after the the welfare of such couples and provide them with temporary shelter. Court has given a deadline of three months for the state to implement these measures. Such orders by the High court were considered to have come in a crucial stage, where the state of Tamilnadu has boiled over the killing of a dalit youth in full view at a bus stand last month. The reason behind the murder is thought to be his love marriage with a high caste Hindu girl!
