A leopard that strayed in to Prakash Nagar village near Salugara on the outskirts of Siliguri on July 19, 2011 attacked a forest guard. Six people were mauled by the leopard after it strayed into the village area before it was caught by forest department officials.
Forest officials made several attempt to tranquilize the full grown leopard that was wandering through a part of the densely populated city when curious crowds startled the animal. Forest official say that villagers used knives, stones and batons to beat back the cat in to the nearby wildlife sanctuary. In the melee it injured six villagers, a policeman and four forest guards before being hit with a tranquilizer gun Tuesday.
