A new research has found that regular and devoted use of Olive oil can help kill cancer cells in the body. Further research is still required to start using Olive oil in Cancer treatments at various Cancer care centers across the world, however, it is known to have a positive effect on ones body and health and hence is easy to adopt it into treatment process, compared to scientifically-prepared medicines which have adverse side-effects on ones health. On keen comparison of health census, extensive usage of Olive oil from ages could be the reason behind low incidence of cancer in the Mediterranean region. Additional studies are also required to find out if the cancer cells donot re-appear or grow again, once destroyed.
The initial study started with testing the primary phenolic compound, Oleocanthal, found in Olive oil. Oleocanthal is the central compound of extra-virgin olive oil, it is an anti-oxidant. Scientists found that Oleocanthal was targeting and destroying the cancer cell vesicles, called Lysosomes, which are fragile and cancer banks in the body...they are like the central offices of the disease. Lysosomes provide the necessary stabilizing function for the spread of the disease. Oleocanthal damaged these cells, sametime the healthy cells were effected too, as if Oleocanthal acted as a sleep-aid for the healthy cells...however, they regained their normal functioning after few hours, which means Oleocanthal only damaged the cancer cells and not the healthy cells. Studies also need to be conducted to know why it kills only the cancerous cells and not the non-cancerous cells to understand more about Oleocanthal's functioning and molecular details which can be useful to create medicines for cancer treatment in the future. It might take few years for this to happen.
Health scientists and Doctors suggest that regular use of Olive oil in cooking could help develop a stronger immune system, have sharper memory with better brain health, protect the body from air pollution, have stronger bones in old age, protect against Alzheimer's. A five-year study reveals that Mediterranean diet based on extensive Extra Virgin Olive oil usage is capable of reducing Breast Cancer risk by 68 percent. Researchers observed 4200 women who were offered either Mediterranean diet or Low-fat diet for five years. Those who consumed Mediterranean diet had 68 percent less risk of developing breast cancer than those who ate a low-fat diet. These preventive strategies help keep a problem at bay, rather than facing one with lot of emotional and physical struggle. A healthy diet of leafy greens, fruits, vegetables and olive oil can radically reduce the chance of developing the disease, infact., keep any disease away for any age group and gender !!
