Gout is a complex disorder which is more commonly seen in men and in post-menopausal women. The person complaints of painful joints when struck by gout attack!
A typical gout attack includes: severe pain in the joints which subsides by itself within a week or so, overlying skin feels itchy and peels off, Skin may become red or purplish and also have elevated temperatures with tender and swollen joints. If you find any of the these symptoms over your joints, consult a doctor immediately.
The most prevalent causes are: obesity, heavy alcohol consumption, a diet mainly and solely comprising of seafood and meat, regular use of diuretic drugs and kidney diseases.
There are complications of the gout are: Recurrent gout attacks, untreated gout can lead to formation of urate crystals under the skin, these urate crystal may even accumulate in urinary tract and lead to development of kidney stones, the urate crystals may be formed in joints too and finally gout can also spread to other joints!
Treating gout is quite simple, it comprises of drugs which reduce the production of uric acid. The dietary care plays an important role in the management of gout. Reducing the consumption of meat and alcohol are beneficial. Drinking more water might aid in diluting uric acid present in the blood!!
