Nandamuri Balakrishna (born 10 June 1960) is an Indian film actor in Telugu Cinema. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. He entered the film industry at the age of 14.

Early life:Nandamuri Balakrishna was born in Madras, Tamil Nadu, to N. T. Rama Rao and smt.Basava Tarakam. Balakrishna has seven brothers Rama Krishna, Jaya Krishna, Hari krishna, Mohana Krishna, Sai Krishna, Jaya Shankar Krishna, and four sisters Uma Maheswari, Bhuvaneswari, Lokeswari, Daggubati Purandareswari.

Film Career (1974-1998):In 1974 Telugu film, Tatamma Kala which was Directed by his father NTR. This marked his debut on the silver screen. Also released in the same year, NTRs Brahmam gari Charitra. His first year was very promising, with three out of seven movies being big hits. His first movie with ANR Bharya Bhartla Bhandham produced by Jagapati Arts was rated as an average film. Pattabhishekam, a Ramakrishna Studios film directed by K.Raghavendra Rao who weaved a new image for NTR, saved grace by collecting close to one crore in the first week and having a decent run.In 1986, he had six consecutive box office hits and he has appeared on the cover page of The Week Magazine. Muddula Krishnnayya was the first movie to collect over one crore in the first week and he never looked back on openings. In 1989, his Muddula Mavayya turned out to be the biggest hit. His 50th movie Nari Nari Naduma Murari was a big hit. Lorry Driver, which came in 1990 was not only an unexpected hit, but is one of the most popular films in the Telugu film industry. Rowdy Inspector was another big hit in his career that came in the next couple of years. Even the film is dubbed in Hindi and was a big hit. His performance in Sci-Fi movie Aditya 369 and Folklore Bhairava Dweepam was critically acclaimed and has made decent commercial outcome.

During the year of 1993 only two of his movies Nippuravva and Bangaru Bullodu were released both of them were released on the same day. In the year 1994 his combination with ANR in Gandeevam did not have similar success, however his next movie Bobbili Simham did. His role in Pedda Annayya (1997) was praised by fans and it was contested that he deserved an award for his role in this film.

1999 - Present: A faction film Samarasimha Reddy directed by B.Gopal in 1999 is the Biggest Blockbuster in Telugu Cinema history. later in the year 2000, Narasimha Naidu Opened with heavy collections and this movie went on to become industrys biggest hit in terms of revenue. His next movie Bhalevadivi Basu failed miserably at Box office, and in 2002 two films were released Seema Simham which got mixed reviews setting up to a Below average Movie while Chennakeshava Reddy which was Above average Hit. In the next year he again paired up with B. Gopal Palanati Brahmanaidu Movie was a Disaster and received bad reviews due to unimaginable actions of Hero Character. In 2004 Lakshmi Narasimha a Remake of Tamil Movie Saamy was super Hit. After this movie Balakrishna had Quite unsuccessful time when all of his releases Vijayendra Varma, Allari Pidugu, Veerabhadra and Maharadhi failed at the box office and were declared flops. Later in the Year 2008 he started of with Okka Magadu directed by Y.V.S. Chowdary. This Movie was released with very High Expectations, but it turned out to be a disaster at the box office. The failure of this movie degraded the image of Balakrishna and people have questioned his decision making capabilities. Later that year he came up with Raghavendra Raos Pandurangadu a remake of NTRs Panduranga Mahatyam. This movie received a good reviews initially but later settled down as an average grosser. This was Followed by Mitrudu in 2009 which was not up to the mark.

After a series of flops for almost a decade,In 2010 his Double roled movie Simha released in Summer and was a big success at the Box office. After his success with Simha, he is currently working for Parama Veera Chakra movie under Teja cinema banner which is set to release in 2011. Also his upcoming untitled project is with Paruchuri Murali.

Personal life:He is married to Vasundhara Devi and has one son Mokshagna Tarakarama Teja and two daughters Brahmini and Tejaswini. His elder daughter Brahmini was married to Nara lokesh, son of Nara Chandrababu Naidu who is the president of Telugu Desam Party and former Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh


  • *   Nandamuri Balakrishna won the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu) in 1994 for the movie Bhairava Dweepam.
  • *   The State Government of Andhra Pradesh conferred him with the Nandi Award for Best Actor for the movie Narasimha Naidu in 2001.
