For the first time in decades, north coastal Andhra districts have celebrated Diwali festival without crackers or rockets, following the appeal by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to avoid fire accidents in the cyclone hit areas. Thousands of small and big trees fall down in the three districts, especially in Vizag city during Hudhud cyclone. So, government has banned sales of fire crackers in these three districts as a precautionary measure and also appealed the people not to purchase fire crackers.
Hence, people in these three districts have celebrated Diwali just by lighting candles and oil lamps. There was not a single cracker fired in entire Vizag city, because people also realized it is very difficult to control the fire if the huge dumps of fallen trees catch fire. Police are also very vigilant and not let a single fire cracker shop open in the city. As a result, there is no sound or light seen in this Diwali festival in the cyclone affected areas. However, people in large have no complaints against state government for prohibiting fire crackers.
