Arunachalam Karthika Deepam
The ‘Tiruvannamalai Arunachalam Temple’ was built by the ‘Chola Kings’ in the 9th Century & this temple is considered to be rich in ‘Spiritual Heritage’.
Since Lord Shiva is in the form of Agni here, the festival of Karthika Deepam is celebrated with great pomp in this temple in the month of Karthika.
It’s a ten-day festival that falls between November and December and culminates in the lighting of the Mahadeepam on the Tiruvannamalai hill at sunset.
Karthika Deepam, got its name from the Karthika or Krittika Nakshatram. Karthika Deepam is observed on the day when Krittika Nakshatra is prevailing. It is believed that on this day of Karthika Deepam, Lord Shiva transformed himself into an endless flame of light to prove his supremacy.
