The 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections are officially underway today, April 23, with over 5.67 crore voters deciding the fate of the 234-member assembly. Polling began at 7:00 AM, and Kollywood's biggest stars were quick to participate.
Ajith Kumar was among the very first to cast his vote at 7 AM. Throughout the morning and leading up to 2 PM, several other prominent actors, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Dhanush, Trisha, and Sivakarthikeyan, arrived at various polling stations across Chennai to register their votes.

Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Thalapathy Vijay also cast his vote today. Shortly after, he formally requested the Election Commission to extend the polling time by two hours, pushing the deadline from 6 PM to 8 PM. Vijay based his request on severe transport disruptions and slow polling processes causing excessively long queues.
With thousands of voters reportedly stranded at bus terminals across the state due to inadequate public transport, his demand addresses a genuine logistical issue. Extending the hours would ensure stranded citizens are not deprived of their fundamental right to vote. The final results of this high-stakes election will be declared after the official counting of votes on May 4, 2026.
