on Apr 15, 2025

Ilaiyaraaja, the highly respected legendary composer of Indian Cinema has been strongly against using his old compositions in new movies, without his permission. While the makers try to pay for rights to producers or music labels, he has been raising issue about not asking for his permission.

While he does have rights for compensation or royalty for his compositions, copyright laws say that producers and labels own complete saleable rights and composers, singers can claim royalty, only. Well, Ilaiyaraaja has struck again and he sent notices to Good Bad Ugly makers asking for Rs.5 crores compensation.

He asked them to pay the amount and give him a written apology in seven days. He stated that they have used 3 of his highly popular songs without considering to ask his permission. Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of the film, did not respond to the claims and legal notices yet.
